Noncommutative Effects in the Black Hole Evaporation in Two Dimensions
We discuss some possible implications of a two-dimensional toy model for
black hole evaporation in noncommutative field theory. While the
noncommutativity we consider does not affect gravity, it can play an important
role in the dynamics of massless and Hermitian scalar fields in the event
horizon of a Schwarzschild black hole. We find that noncommutativity will
affect the flux of outgoing particles and the nature of its UV/IR divergences.
Moreover, we show that the noncommutative interaction does not affect Leahy's
and Unruh's interpretation of thermal ingoing and outgoing fluxes in the black
hole evaporation process. Thus, the noncommutative interaction still destroys
the thermal nature of fluxes. In the process, some nonlocal implications of the

Boardman-Vogt resolutions and bar/cobar constructions of (co)operadic (co)bimodules
We develop the combinatorics of leveled trees in order to construct explicit resolutions of (co)operads and (co)operadic (co)bimodules. We build explicit cofibrant resolutions of operads and operadic bimodules in spectra analogous to the ordinary Boardman--Vogt resolutions and we express them as cobar constructions of indecomposable elements. Dually, in the context of CDGAs, we perform similar constructions, and we obtain fibrant resolutions of Hopf cooperads and Hopf cooperadic cobimodules. We also express them as bar constructions of primitive elements
Quantum critical scaling of the geometric tensors
Berry phases and the quantum-information theoretic notion of fidelity have
been recently used to analyze quantum phase transitions from a geometrical
perspective. In this paper we unify these two approaches showing that the
underlying mechanism is the critical singular behavior of a complex tensor over
the Hamiltonian parameter space. This is achieved by performing a scaling
analysis of this quantum geometric tensor in the vicinity of the critical
points. In this way most of the previous results are understood on general
grounds and new ones are found. We show that criticality is not a sufficient
condition to ensure superextensive divergence of the geometric tensor, and
state the conditions under which this is possible. The validity of this
analysis is further checked by exact diagonalization of the spin-1/2 XXZ

Critical phenomena of thick branes in warped spacetimes
We have investigated the effects of a generic bulk first-order phase
transition on thick Minkowski branes in warped geometries. As occurs in
Euclidean space, when the system is brought near the phase transition an
interface separating two ordered phases splits into two interfaces with a
disordered phase in between. A remarkable and distinctive feature is that the
critical temperature of the phase transition is lowered due to pure geometrical
effects. We have studied a variety of critical exponents and the evolution of

The Effect on Foreign Direct Investment of Membership in the European Union
This article explores the impact of EU membership on foreign direct investment (FDI). It analyses empirically how the effects of such deep integration differ from other forms and investigates what drives these effects. Using a structural gravity framework on annual bilateral FDI data for almost every country in the world from 1985 to 2018, we find EU membership leads to about 60 per cent higher FDI investment into the host economy from outside the EU, and around 50 per cent higher intra‐EU FDI. Moreover, we find that the effect of EU membership on FDI is larger than from membership of the North American Free Trade Agreement, the European Free Trade Association and the Southern Common Market, and that the single market is the cornerstone of this differential impact
Galaxy Counts, Sizes, Colours and Redshifts in the Hubble Deep Field
We compare the galaxy evolution models of Bruzual & Charlot (1993) with the
faint galaxy count, size and colour data from the Hubble and Herschel Deep
Fields (Metcalfe et al 1996). For qo=0.05, we find that models where the SFR
increases exponentially out to z>2 are consistent with all of the observational
data. For qo=0.5, such models require an extra population of galaxies which are
only seen at high redshift and then rapidly fade or disappear. We find that,
whatever the cosmology, the redshift of the faint blue galaxies and hence the
epoch of galaxy formation is likely to lie at z>2. We find no implied peak in
the SFR at z=1 and we suggest that the reasons for this contradiction with the
results of Madau et al (1996) include differences in faint galaxy photometry,
in the treatment of spiral dust and in the local galaxy count normalisation.Comment: 8 pages, 5 eps figures, needs paspconf.st
